Molecular Systematics of Plants II: DNA Sequencing by Pamela Soltis,

Molecular Systematics of Plants II: DNA Sequencing by Pamela Soltis,
In the five years since the publication of Molecular Systematics of Plants, the field of molecular systematics has advanced at an astonishing pace. This period has been marked by a volume of new empirical data and advances in theoretical and analytical issues related to DNA. Comparative DNA sequencing, facilitated by the amplification of DNA via the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), has become the tool of choice for molecular systematics. As a result, large portions of the Molecular Systematics of Plants have become outdated. Molecular Systematics of Plants II summarizes these recent achievements in plant molecular systematics. Like its predecessor, this completely revised work illustrates the potential of DNA markers for addressing a wide variety of phylogenetics and evolutionary questions. The volume provides guidance in choosing appropriate techniques, as well as appropriate genes for sequencing, for given levels of systematic inquiry. More than a review of techniques and previous work, Molecular Systematics of Plants II provides a stimulus for developing future research in this rapidly evolving field. Molecular Systematics of Plants II is not only written for systematists (faculty, graduate students, and researchers), but also for evolutionary biologists, botanists, and paleobotanists interested in reviewing current theory and practice in plant molecular systematics.

Unraveling DNA: Molecular Biology for the Laboratory by Michael R. Winfrey,
Unraveling DNA: Molecular Biology for the Laboratory by Michael R. Winfrey,
This manual encompasses an integrated series of molecular biology laboratory exercises that involve the cloning and analysis of the bioluminescence "(lux)" genes from the marine bacterium "Vibrio fischeri." The manual is divided into discrete units with each demonstrating one or more aspects of the cloning project. The manual is based on one of nature's most fascinating biological phenomenon: the biological production of light. This results in a recurrent theme of interest and makes the project very relevant to interdisciplinary topics such as fish symbiosis, biochemistry, biophysics, etc. Includes instruction in the basic techniques of modern molecular biology: DNA isolation and analysis, DNA restriction, agarose gel electrophoresis, ligations, transformation of recombinant DNA, preparation and screening a genomic library, restriction mapping, Southern blotting, hybridization, DNA sequencing, pulsed field gel electrophoresis. Designed for a one semester course in Molecular Biology. Also appropriate for a molecular biology component of Microbial Genetics, Genetics, Biochemistry, or Advanced Microbiology courses.

Telomere - A telomere is a region of highly repetitive DNA at the end of a chromosome that functions as a disposable buffer. Every time linear eukaryotic chromosomes are replicated, the DNA polymerase complex is incapable of replicating all the way to the end of the chromosome; if it were not for telomeres, this would quickly result in the loss of useful genetic information.

Therapeutic cloning - Therapeutic cloning (also known as somatic cell nuclear transfer, cell nuclear replacement, research cloning, and embryo cloning) involves taking an egg (or oocyte) from which the nucleus has been removed, and replacing that nucleus with DNA from the cell of another organism. The result is a blastocyst (an early stage embryo with about 100 cells) with almost identical DNA to the original organism.

DNA-DNA hybridisation - DNA-DNA hybridization is a method in genetics to measure the degree of genetic similarity between DNA sequences. The technique is usually used to determine the genetic "distance" between two species.

Sigma protein - The core RNA polymerase consists of enzymes which are capable of carrying out the transcription of RNA from DNA. It is the co-ordinated activities of enzymes of RNA Polymerase that result in the transcription.

1328 1589 France King Valois - ... King Henry VI lived from 1421 to 1471, however, the three plays which bear his name as titles do not concern him as much as those around him, such as Talbot, of HENRY VI, PART I, who is killed as a result of warring British factions while Henry VI is yet a child-king. The play is set during the final stages of the Hundred Years War against France, after the death of Henry V, who had conquered a significant amount French ... territory during his triumphant reign--most of which is lost during the course of the present drama. The three Henry VI plays, together with Richard III, form a tetralogy that thematically chronicles the disintegration of British dominance, the infighting that ensues, resulting in civil war (The War of the Roses). The tension between chaos 1328 1589 france king valois and order is paramount. According to most scholarship, Shakespeare wrote the first of the three parts between 1589 1328 1589 france king ...
